Connect Stat Crew statistical data to a graphic layer

Captivate Broadcast and Sport can connect to the Stat Crew database and display incoming statistical data in graphics. Complete the steps in this article to connect to Stat Crew Stats.

Note: This feature is not available in Captivate Present.

Single Player Stats

  1. If you are planning on using images in your graphic please ensure the following:
    • The images need to be in a textures folder that lives next to the nbtlproj file. (Please create a folder labeled Textures if there is not one already present in your project folder and place images there.)
    • The images need to be in that folder BEFORE opening the project file in Captivate.
    • The images need to named with this formatlastnamefirstinitial.png
  2. In Captivate's playout interface, open a project (if a project isn't already open) and select a graphic in the playlist.
Tip: For the best results, use a graphic that matches the name of the data controller template (e.g., Ivory Corner Info can be paired with any sport and the Corner Info Stat data controller template).

  3. Under the Data Controller Column within the Project List, select Add source Sports > Stat Crew Stats and select a sport, team, and the type of data you want.  Here we are only displaying a Single Player stat graphic.

    Screenshot 2023-09-21 at 3.38.00 PM.png

Important: If the status light in the top-right corner of the Stat Crew Stats panel is green TL_Stat_Crew_Stats_4.png, then your XML file is connected and the Stat Crew Stats input is receiving data as expected. If the status icon is red, you have one of the following issues:

    • Your Stat Crew XML is not connected. Reload the XML file or repeat the previous steps to re-enter or select the XML file's path or URL.
    • Your Stat Crew XML is connected, but it is not receiving the expected data for the sport you selected from the Data Controllers in step 2. Repeat the previous steps to connect to a different XML file or Stat Crew Stats input.
Once the correct XML source has been assigned, you may then begin to configure the data assignments.  The Data Controller sport and data template type will determine which data can be configured for your graphic layer. This data controller(Ivory Corner Info contains a template to select a player and 10 different stats to be represented from the selected player.

  6. The Data item selected(e.g. Single Player as shown below) will populate under the chosen team.  Select the player to highlight in the drop down menu provided.

  7. Use the Player drop down menu to select the player to highlight. This list will generate based on the players that exist on the XML source file that has been connected to the data controller.

    Screenshot 2023-09-21 at 2.49.02 PM.png

  8. Use the Gear icon to open the Stats Variable Settings drop down menus to select the stats that you wish to be represented in your graphic.

Troubleshooting: The dropdown tends to populate at the top of the controller.  So if you do not see the Stats menu appear right away, try scrolling up the top of the controller panel. Screenshot 2023-09-21 at 2.49.40 PM.png

When a stat type is selected in the drop down, the graphic will display the stat label for that stat and the value of that stat for the selected player from the Player drop down.  Once your stats have been configured to your preference, selecting any player from the Player drop down menu will autopopulate the configured stats for the selected player onto the graphic as a live update. 9. If there are missing data links between the graphic and the data controller, click the Link Data button from the Preview panel to view the Stat Crew Stats input variables.

  10. Click and drag a Stat Crew Stats variable onto an object in your graphic or right-click to select the design object you wish to connect. This action will link the input variable to a visual element on the graphic such as text. Screenshot 2023-09-21 at 3.12.38 PM.png
Note: To verify which variable label is indicating which team or player's data, reference the Live Data panel.  Test by manually adjusting the data in the input box. Screenshot 2023-09-26 at 2.03.51 PM.png

  11. Repeat this step for each variable you want to include in your graphic.
Note: To make any manual changes live to your XML, you will need to Save the XML to have the changes reflect live within Captivate.  For more information on connecting general XML feed Data to a graphic layer, please visit our help article, here.
