Captivate Broadcast and Sport can connect to a Scorebird NeST device and display real-time information. Complete the steps in this article to connect to a Scorebird NeST. We have also included a breakdown of Scorebird terms and a couple troubleshooting steps for your reference.
Connect your Scorebird NeST to Captivate
Here are steps to connect your Scorebird NeST. There are two different connection modes requiring slightly different information based on the Scorebird NeST you own. You will need that information to complete the process.
Note: It is also recommended that you start your Scorebird game before connecting within Captivate if you want your variables automatically selected, although not required. You can always manually select them if you start the game after connecting to Captivate.
- In Captivate's playout interface, open a project (if a project isn't already open) and select a graphic in the playlist.
Tip: Want to create a new graphic? Open the Library panel and drag a design from the library to the Project panel. If you create a new graphic from the library's Designs section, add the Scorebird data controller to your graphic. - Choose Select a data source > Sports > Scorebird and select a sport to add the Scorebird data controller to the graphic.
- The Scorebird data controller can then be accessed from a tab within the Layer Properties panel.
- Please click Show Settings to have access to the inputs to enter your Scorebird NeST information.
There are two connection modes available. Please be prepared to connect by entering the proper information needed that applies to your Scorebird NeST device. The two Connection Modes are detailed below:
- Default Mode is for the older model NeST 2.0 Device:
In order to connect, you will need the NeST ID (serial number) located on the device and the API key available when you log into your Scorebird account. - The Advanced Local Mode requires the newer model NeST 3.0 device:
The local mode only requires the IP address (network address) located on the device itself.
NOTE: Select Switch to Local Connection if you are using the Advanced Local Mode.
- Default Mode is for the older model NeST 2.0 Device:
- Click Connect to allow Captivate to retrieve live data from your NeST.
- If a connection is successful, a green "Connected" text will be displayed underneath the Save Settings button. You should now have your Scorebird NeST connected to Captivate.
- Scroll down to audit all the data that is being fetched real-time from the NeST device. This data will update automatically and does not require additional operation to continue receiving real-time data.
Troubleshooting Tip: Having trouble setting up your NeST device with your scoring/time-keeping console? Watch Scorebird's setup video. - Ensure that your selected data is connected to your graphic correctly, click the Link Data button in the Preview panel to display all variables(data) available to connect.
- The connected Variables(data) will be in bold. You can connect any variable by either dragging and dropping the Variable name to the desired design element or right-clicking the Variable name to selecting from the design element list. For more information on editing or adding variables to display your data in your graphic differently, please see Create variables in graphics. You can also visit our Basic Graphic Creation & Import or Customizing Design Layers & Animation.
Note: You can also disconnect a variable by right-clicking the variable name and unselecting the design element that is checked.
Once your graphic is customized to present the data from your Scorebird NeST device, you are ready for broadcast. Test by playing from your Project List to send the graphic live displaying in your Program Monitor and output.
Note: When we get data from the NeST / Scorebird ecosystem, that data will override whatever is in the graphic. The Lock button allows you to force a variable to never update from new Scorebird data. It’s useful for setting up team names and colors because sometimes the data from Scorebird can be wrong or out of date.
Scorebird Terms to Know
Here is some added information you might need:
- NeST ID (Scorebird) – Put the “serial number” of your NeST device here.
- API Key (Scorebird) – This is like a password and it will be assigned to you by Scorebird. If you don’t already have one, please contact your Scorebird representative.
- Reload Game Info (Scorebird) - If you opened this controller before the game was live, we might not have received all the game data yet. Click this button located on the game you have set up in the Scorebird website, when the Scorebird game is marked live. This will load the active game data like team names and colors. Only applies to the Default Connection Mode.
