Create custom designs with flexible durations

This article describes how to create a graphic that operators can play for a specific duration or indefinitely, and you won't have to trim the graphic or alter the design's playback speed or animations.

How does it work? A graphic's timeline includes a pause point, which is identified by the orange indicator above the timeline, as shown in the following image.

When an operator chooses to play a graphic indefinitely during a broadcast, Titler Live pauses the graphic on the frame of the pause point and displays that frame while the broadcast continues. When the operator stops playback to animate out the graphic, the graphic resumes playing the remainder of its duration and all graphical elements corresponding to that duration.

  1. In Titler Live's playout interface, add a graphic layer to the channel, if you haven't already done so. For details, see Channel panel management.
  2. Select a graphic layer in the channel, then click the Edit Graphic button in the Preview panel. The graphic layer opens in the Designer.
  3. To set the graphic's fixed duration, click the Timeline field TL5_Timeline_Field.png which is near the bottom-right corner of the canvas, and enter a duration in MM:SS;FF format (where MM = two digits for minutes, SS = two digits for seconds, and FF = two digits for frames). This is the playback duration of the graphic and can be customized to increase or decrease its duration.
  4. Customize the graphic's layers, animations, or any other visual elements, including their durations within the timeline. For more information, see articles in the Customize design layers section of our help center.
  5. Reposition or decrease/increase the duration of layers and ensure all animations end before the pause point or start after the pause point.

Important! If an animation overlaps the pause point, the graphic may not appear as you intend during playback.

To adjust the timing of animations the pause point, complete one or both of the followings steps.

    • Adjust the pause point: Click and drag the pause point above the timeline until the pause point doesn't overlap animations within any design layer.
    • Adjust the duration of animations: Click and drag the left or ride side of an animation until the animation doesn't overlap the pause point. Repeat this step to adjust additional design layers, if necessary.

In the following image, notice the animations don't overlap the pause point.

  6. Preview the graphic using the play button below the canvas to ensure it appears as you intend and make any changes in the timeline, if necessary.
  7. Click the Keep changes btn-keep-changes.png button in the bottom-right corner of the Timeline workspace to save the design to your project's current session.

Tip: If you want to reuse or customize this design in future projects, you can save the graphic to your computer or graphics library.

  8. Later, when you're ready to broadcast the graphic from the Layer's workspace and want the graphic to play indefinitely, click the graphic in the layers workspace. The Duration column can be use to customize the duration the graphic will remain paused on the pause point customized from the Designer. Setting this duration to 00:00;00 will allow the graphic to remain paused indefinitely.

When the duration is set to 00:00;00 the graphic will pause during playback until the operator clicks the play button action-btn-stop.png to animate out the graphic.
